NEWTON PARK'S HISTORY

Bob and JoyFor Bob & Joyce Newton, owners of Hoosier Racing Tire Corp., what began as a vision has quickly turned into a reality. The pair, married for over 50 years, have watched their business grow from a small, sometimes struggling, operation in the back of a horse barn into the world's largest race tire company.

All the while, the couple had always wanted to give back to the community that helped their business flourish so abundantly over the years, but just how was the difficult question.

Then it came to them. Why not build a park for the entire Lakeville community. "A Place For Kids" where children could safely play.

And so, the dream quickly developed into a reality with ground being broken in 2000 and work continuing until the final touches were put in place in 2004. What was to have taken five years took just over 3 years to complete as a result of Bob's personal drive to see the project completed.

The park features fields for various sports like soccer, baseball, softball and football. The park also features a 1-mile walking path and a pond to name just a few of the wonderful amenities. The park also boasts Musco lighting for the various sporting fields that tower over the park at 70' tall.

The park has its own "Golden Dome" as the centerpiece in the nucleus of the ball diamonds where scoring and announcing take place. On a sunny day, the dome shines as bright as the vision the Newton's had for their park.

A 60' tall flag pole is centrally located inside the park to proudly display the stars and stripes for all park visitors. It is hoped Newton Park will be a long lasting tribute to the American success story of Bob and Joyce Newton and their family business. If their dream is to be a reality, Newton Park will be a place where kids can safely play for generations to come.
